Acura Vigor
My Acura
Vigor had been around the block a few (hundred) times before I
finally got around to modifying her, but I eventually did. In fact,
the only modifications that were done before the 200k mile mark was
to shave all the markings off the car. Ironically, with no markings
at all, people were completely confused as to what kind of car it
was, but at least they stopped calling it a Legend. That alone was
worth the tube of cleaner it took to get all the gunk off from the
badges.
Anyway, once I actually got the money and time to start modifying
the car in earnest, there were tons of aftermarket parts available.
Obviously this car had been around a while, but I honestly didn't
think that they had made enough of them to have this kind of
aftermarket support. I was wrong.
Need car insurance? You can
get terrific
temporary car insurance
short term motor insurance or
short term van insurance if you live in the UK.
The first
modification was the installation of lowering springs. I went with
about a half inch. Ride quality only barely suffered, if at all, and
the car handled much better than before. Thankfully my next upgrade
included rims and tires because I never did get the front end
aligned, so she ate right through the tires that were on her. After
the new, softer tires, and slightly bigger rims, I swear the car
actually rode better.
After that, I did the basic intake, exhaust, header combination. I
knew there was a chance of this happening, but I wasn't quite
prepared for the noise before I started driving the car around. It
was very, very loud. Obnoxiously loud. At first it was amusing, but
then it became a headache. I may end up putting the stock exhaust
manifold back on the car, to be honest. Whatever you do, do not put
headers on an Acura Vigor if you will ever have a need for your car
to be stealthy at all. Not going to happen.
The last modification was the nitrous. I spent a lot of cash on a
throttle activated plunger system that added up to about a 100 shot.
Why nitrous? Because if I blow the car up, I don't want to have to
find another Acura Vigor to replace it because I happened to own a
very motor specific turbocharger.
The 100 shot was most noticeable off the line. I never would have
thought that I would get this car to the point that it could shred
its tires, but all it took was the nitrous. I'm going to say this
probably has something to do with the weight of the car, too, since
she's certainly no featherweight and, regardless of the stiffer
lowering springs, the weight does most definitely shift.
This is all the money that I plan to spend on this car, aside from
minor repairs and maintenance, but it still feels rock solid, and I
figure it will probably run at least in the high 13's at the track.
Of course, that will totally depend on if I can get traction at all!
